Achievements

Archery
We at The Squad are very proud of our achievements over the last 12 years.  Equally, we have high expectations for the future, and the dynamism and commitment of our members and volunteers has created a momentum which is carrying us forward with vigour.  Here are just some examples of the achievements that have contributed to this momentum.

Celebrations
  • The Squad organises and runs Party in the Park in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
  • Regular celebration of cultural events, including Chinese Dragon making, African evenings, Indian dancing, and even an appearance on National Japanese TV!
Prizes and Recognition
  • The Squad wins the National Mencap Photography awards 2003.
  • Prince Charles meets The Squad in Mitcham in acknowledgment of the work carried out by The Squad.
  • The Squad are special guests at Wimbledon FC match at Selhurst Park.
  • The Wimbledon MP chooses to volunteer at The Squad for National Volunteer Week (2003).
Activities
  • Activities for all abilities and interests available every Thursday for over 10 years!
  • Participation in Football in the Community scheme.
  • Regular theatre attendance including most of the musical theatre performances in the West End of London.
  • Active participation in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.
Holidays
  • Annual residential trips take The Squad over the UK and as far a field as Paris.
Goofy in Disneyland
Partnerships
  • The Squad works with local and community groups including scouts and sea cadets.
  • The Squad participates in the annual clean-up of the River Wandle and has worked closely with Groundwork Merton over the last six years.
Development
  • The Squad leads pioneering Volunteer Induction training for London Mencap in the early 90's.
  • The Squad's Management Committee (Squad Works) is set up and run by Squad members for Squad members.
  • The Squad AGM's are instigated as fun and inclusive celebrations of what we do.
  • The Squad becomes an independent charity registered with Companies House.
